Artist Background
Sleeping At Last began in Wheaton, Illinois as a three-piece band featuring Ryan O’Neal (lead vocals and guitar), his brother Chad O’Neal (drums), and Dan Perdue (bass and keys). Early on, the group blended alternative rock with emo-leaning and atmospheric elements, building a strong local following through regional shows before expanding beyond their hometown. Over time, Sleeping At Last became known for emotionally-driven songwriting and cinematic arrangements, with standout songs like “Say,” “Turning Page,” and “Slow & Steady” becoming listener favorites.
In 2000, the band independently recorded their debut album Capture, and that early release helped them draw the attention of Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins. With his support, Sleeping At Last signed to Interscope Records and released Ghosts in 2003, which became their first and only major label album. After touring and completing that release cycle, the band chose to return to an independent path because they wanted more creative control. As a result, they released Keep No Score in 2006 and Storyboards in 2009, continuing to shape their sound outside the major label system.
As the project evolved, both Chad O’Neal and Dan Perdue eventually stepped away to pursue other interests (Chad in 2008, Dan in 2011). Ryan O’Neal continued forward as the sole permanent member, transforming Sleeping At Last into a solo musical project focused on intimate songwriting, cinematic soundscapes, and concept-driven releases.
