Artist Background

Michael Jackson was an American singer, choreographer, record producer, song writer and dancer. He was one of the world’s most popular singers and even came to be referred to as the king of pop. Despite his popularity, the artist was faced with a scandal in 1993 when a minor accused him of sexually abusing him. His image was badly injured but Michael Jackson insisted that he was innocent. The matter was settled outside court. In 2003, he was again charged with child sexual abuse but the court ruled in his favor in 2005. He had a pet chimpanzee, Bubbles, which he travelled with despite mockery. He changed his appearance but claimed to only have had one surgery. Professionals claim that he may have had body dysmorphic disorder. He died in 2009 at age 50.

Michael Jackson was the eighth child of the Jackson family. Michael Jackson married Lisa Marie Presley in 1994. However, they divorced just two years later. Presley was the daughter of the late rock legend Elvis Presley so critics viewed their marriage as a PR stunt. In February 1997, Michael Jackson’s son was born. The child’s mother, Debbie Rowe, had been Michael’s friend for a long time. They got married and had a second child but got divorced in 1999.

Michael Jackson was born into a musical, Jehovah’s Witnesses family. His musical talent was apparent even when he was just five years old. His parents always taught them folk and religious songs. Having had musical ambitions of his own in the past, Michael Jackson’s father desired to make his children successful musicians. He took charge of their careers even and they formed a family band. Michael became the band’s main singer when he was just eight. The band, Jackson boys, became really popular across the Midwest and Michael Jackson’s talent stood out even when he was in the band. There hits such as ‘I’ll be there’ and ‘The Love You Save’ topped charts in the 1970s. Michael started his solo career in 1971 even though he was still part of the band. In 1982, he made ‘Thriller’, the highest selling album of all time. About 110 million copies were sold. He later released other albums which also sold really well.

In 1984, the single ‘Somebody’s Watching Me’ by Rockwell and Jackson was released. It became the leading song in France and Spain. In the same year, Michael released another single, ‘Farewell My Summer Love’. Later in the year, the band, Jackson boys released their album ‘Victory’. Michael won eight awards in the American Music Awards that year. He did the ‘Bad world tour’ from 1987 to 1989. It was his first solo tour. He released the studio album, ‘Dangerous’ towards the end of 1991. He started the Dangerous world tour in 1992 and gave all the money he earned from it to charity. He continued to release other albums, ‘Scream’, ‘Blood on the dance Floor’ and ‘Invincible’ over the next years.

Michael made a lot of major accomplishments in music. He created the world’s best-selling album of all time, ‘Thriller’ and other albums that shaped the future of pop music and music videos. He invented some of the best dance moves such as moon-walking that the world still enjoys.

His humanitarian works started from as far back as 1979 when he donated books to the Chicago Public Library. He raised $ 100 000 for the Atlanta Children’s Foundation in 1981 and in 1984, he donated his song ‘Beat It’ to a National campaign against drinking when driving. He continued to make other donations over the years and even got awards for his humanitarian works. ‘Heal the World Foundation’ was one of his most notable charity programs. It was meant to help children and the environment.
