This weeks guestmix is by disco veteran InnerWestSoul. InnerWestSoul is a UK born, Sydney-based DJ and Producer who quotes influences as far ranging as Tony Blackburn, DJ Hype and Joni Mitchell. Turning tables and cutting up tracks since 1984, his musical adventures have taken him through the golden age of hip hop, via acid, house and jungle to land on the more peaceful territory of the modern day disco edits scene. His DJ sets can span multiple musical genres from 1950s hard bop jazz to cutting edge future bass, but are always built around a solid uptempo beat and a love of soulful vocals. His first vinyl release (featuring the killer re-edit of ELO’s Evil Woman) was championed by DJs such as Greg Wilson, Pete Herbert and The Revenge. This guestmix serves as a bit of a showcase as to what InnerWestSOul can do, most of the tracks having his production influence in there somewhere. Its rammed full of old sounds reworked to a new and faster pace, its a fast but very patient set with much emphasis placed on a good mix using a loopy(not insane) style the transitions between tracks are not merely invisible but serve to create enthusiasm. Infact I’d say this mix is optimism personified in sound. Optimism on tap?……One pint please! tags: Disco stats
