Geneva, where rare are the people who exhibit one sole origin, one single language or one cultural legacy. With its all-encompassing spirit of openness and exchange, Geneva is the commonality between all eleven artists and bands featured on ‘Compilation’, they all live or derive from there.
After 2002’s ‘Where Is Here?’ and 2003’s ‘Hosomaki’ which first introduced to the world now renown artists such as Luciano, Miss Kittin, Cassy and several others, here’s the new compilation from Mental Groove Records, aptly-titled ‘Compilation’. Label head and compilation creator Olivier Ducret once again investigated every musical output that the flourishing musical scenes of Geneva have to offer, and selected the very best to introduce to the rest of the world. ‘Compilation’ showcases the diverse talents of eleven bands or artists who still find new paths to draw on the global music map.
All eleven tracks on ‘Compilation’ were crafted for this project specifically, and are exclusive to this release. Established artists like The Young Gods, Sinner DC or Imperial Tiger Orchestra contribute alongside promising newcomers like Ghostape and The National Fanfare of Kadebostany. Just like in Geneva itself and on Mental Groove, electronic music cohabits with afrobeat, rock, lo-fi pop and every sub-genre you couldn’t name on ‘Compilation’, resulting in a solid, intriguing and eclectic yet harmonious assemblage.
